PFLAG Waukesha is offering its first ever “Seeds of Hope” scholarship award designed to support LGBTQIA+ students. Safety, community and encouragement are essential to enabling future success, yet many LGBTQIA+ young people lack a stable, supportive environment. “Seeds of Hope,” is designed to provide LGBTQIA+ students with the financial means to create this environment so that they can focus on their long-term goals.
Applicants can register using the online form. The application for the scholarships is open until May 1, 2026. Winners will be informed by June 1, 2026. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a check to be spent however the recipient wants and are valid for one academic year (August to July). Awards will be presented at the PFLAG Waukesha Annual Meeting and Picnic on August 16, 2026. No essays or personal information will be published without permission.

To paraphrase a quote from Woody Allen, “half of life is showing up”. After a career in education, I decided to get re-involved in my retirement when I realized that the LGBTQIA+ community was being targeted and villainized by some for political gain. The weaponization of faith, callousness and indifference of people in the “majority” was startling and in contrast to my values of justice, equality and an appreciation for all people, regardless of their differences. Involvement in PFLAG with other like-minded people allows me to put those values into action to help educate, advocate and support the LGBTQIA+ community.

From June 2024 to December 2024, PFLAG Waukesha conducted a public survey to assess perceptions of LGBTQIA+ issues in Waukesha and to identify potential steps for improvement. Please click on the link to access the results.
