LEADING WITH JOY TO BUILD THE WORLD THAT WE WANT

Ben Greene, a transgender advocate and educator who has spoken internationally on topics surrounding transgender inclusion, will be our guest speaker via zoom. After coming out at 15 in a small town, Ben has devoted his career to spreading empathy, education and storytelling around the trans experience. Whether it’s for NASA, Johnson & Johnson or over 150 PFLAG chapters, Ben leads with joy. He is the author of the sub stack “Good Queer News” as well as the book My Child is Trans  Now What? A Joy Centered Approach to Support. He has been nominated for a GLADD media award and is a fierce advocate for transgender youth and their families, regularly speaking in their defense at the Missouri State Capitol. He is passionate about leading with joy and educating others from a place of compassion—no matter where they’re starting from.

We will be meeting in Program room A at the Waukesha Public Library, 6:30 pm.

A group of PFLAG members holding a banner at a Pride parade.

To paraphrase a quote from Woody Allen, “half of life is showing up”. After a career in education, I decided to get re-involved in my retirement when I realized that the LGBTQIA+ community was being targeted and villainized by some for political gain. The weaponization of faith, callousness and indifference of people in the “majority” was startling and in contrast to my values of justice, equality and an appreciation for all people, regardless of their differences. Involvement in PFLAG with other like-minded people allows me to put those values into action to help educate, advocate and support the LGBTQIA+ community.
