PFLAG Waukesha

About Us

What We Stand For

PFLAG is the nation's first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQIA+ people and those who love them. PFLAG Waukesha is a local chapter committed to these principles. Our goal is to help all of our LGBTQIA+ loved ones live without fear of harm, discrimination, or abuse just because of who they are or who they love.

What We Do

Provide Support and Outreach– PFLAG Waukesha facilitates a monthly in-person and online community meeting, PFLAG Waukesha Connects, where you can connect with other parents, family members, allies, and LGBTQIA+ people to collaborate and share your vision for a caring, just, and affirming Waukesha. We also sponsor periodic fundraising events and participate in community activities such as the Waukesha Farmers Market, resource fairs, area Pride events, and local news programs.

Offer Education – We provide quarterly education meetings on topics that impact the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition, our PFLAG Waukesha Connects meetings are opportunities to discuss current issues and how we can improve our allyship. PFLAG educational publications, available wherever we are,  are free of charge.

Advocate – PFLAG Waukesha strives to partner with other local and National organizations to educate key decision-makers about the issues that affect our loved ones and families, and to teach others how to use their voices to amplify our efforts toward a more equitable and just world for the LGBTQIA+ community.

As a gay Latino teenager growing up in Waukesha, I felt alone with no resources and no community to turn to. Forty years ago, organizations serving Waukesha's LGBTQ+ community were unheard of.

Today, PFLAG-Waukesha is increasing awareness of the queer community. At its November 6th event, "An Evening with Author Nico Lang," 65 people gathered to learn about the struggles of trans youth and their families. On January 8, Courage+ representatives shared moving stories of homeless LGBTQ+ youth throughout Wisconsin with approximately 30 people. These are two examples of regular educational and connection meetings held every month.

PFLAG-Waukesha is celebrating its third anniversary in 2026. It partners with a wide variety of organizations. Among them is LGBT Waukesha. Both help young people in my hometown feel less isolated. My hope for PFLAG-Waukesha is for it to continue creating change and connecting communities by bringing in even more people to its events.
